  • Jurisdiction-specific task checklists for bereavement administration
  • Progress tracking across different phases of estate administration
  • Secure document storage for certificates, wills, and correspondence
  • Contact management for professionals and family members
  • Communication logging to track interactions with organisations
  • Collaboration features to work with family members, executors, solicitors, and funeral directors

Important: AfterLoss does not provide legal, tax, financial, or professional advice.

The information provided through the Service is for general guidance only and should not be treated as a substitute for professional advice. You should always consult qualified professionals (solicitors, accountants, financial advisers) for specific advice relevant to your circumstances.

Account responsibilities

When you create an account with us, you must:

Team members: You may invite others to collaborate on a case. When you invite team members (family, executors, solicitors, funeral directors), you are responsible for ensuring they have appropriate authority to access the information, and you accept responsibility for their use of the Service in relation to your case.

User responsibilities

By using the Service, you agree to:

  • Have appropriate legal authority to act on behalf of the estate or obtain consent from those who do
  • Provide accurate information about the deceased and the estate
  • Only upload documents you have the right to store and share
  • Use the Service lawfully and in accordance with these Terms
  • Not use the Service for any fraudulent or illegal purpose
  • Not attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the Service

Sensitive data

We understand that the information you provide through AfterLoss is deeply personal and sensitive. Our Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your data.

When you add information about other people (the deceased, contacts, family members), you confirm that you have appropriate authority or consent to provide this information, and that doing so is necessary for administering the estate.

Third-party services

The Service relies on third-party providers to function:

  • Supabase: Provides database hosting, authentication, and file storage
  • Email services: Used to send notifications and invitations

We are not responsible for outages, data loss, or service disruptions caused by these third-party providers. We select providers with appropriate security certifications and data protection measures, as detailed in our Privacy Policy.

The Service contains links to external websites and resources, including:

  • Government websites (Gov.uk, HMRC, courts)

  • Professional service providers
  • Informational resources

These links are provided for your convenience. We do not endorse, control, or accept responsibility for the content, accuracy, or availability of external websites. Your use of external websites is at your own risk and subject to their own terms and conditions.

Your content: You retain ownership of all content you upload to the Service (documents, notes, information). By uploading content, you grant us a limited licence to store, process, and display that content solely to provide the Service to you.

Our content: The Service, including its design, features, task templates, and guidance content, is owned by us and protected by intellectual property laws. You may not copy, modify, or distribute any part of the Service without our written permission.

To the fullest extent permitted by law:

  • The Service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied
  • We do not guarantee that the Service will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free

No professional advice: The guidance and information provided through the Service is general in nature. We are not liable for any decisions you make or actions you take based on information from the Service. Always seek professional advice for your specific circumstances.

  • Separate payment terms will apply to any paid services

Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by email or through the Service. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the new Terms.

We encourage you to review these Terms periodically.

By you: You may close your account at any time through the Service settings or by contacting us. Upon closure, your data will be retained for 2 years (as described in our Privacy Policy) before permanent deletion.

By us: We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service if you breach these Terms or use the Service in a way that could harm us or other users. We will try to give you reasonable notice unless immediate action is required.
