Hindu Council UK

Hindu Council UK is one of the main umbrella bodies representing Hindu organisations across the UK. It coordinates between mandirs, sectarian movements (Vaishnav, Shaiva, Smarta, BAPS Swaminarayan, ISKCON, and others), and regional and language communities (Gujarati, Punjabi, Bengali, North Indian, South Indian, Sri Lankan Tamil), and provides public guidance for families and for non-Hindu executors arranging a Hindu funeral. For families without an existing temple connection, Hindu Council UK can help locate a pandit (priest) and a funeral director with Hindu experience. The National Council of Hindu Temples UK (nchtuk.org) is a sister organisation and also maintains a temple directory; Vishwa Hindu Parishad UK (vhp.uk) distributes a free Hindu Funeral Rites guide booklet that some families find useful.

Hindu Council UK does not itself arrange funerals; the operational lead always sits with the family's pandit, the local mandir, and the chosen funeral director.

Our Hindu funeral traditions in the UK guide explains where the Hindu Council UK and its member temples sit in the wider community infrastructure. Funeral Wishes records the temple and priest the deceased wanted involved, so the practical contacts are already in place when the family needs them.
